Peanut and Pig Trotter Beauty Soup | Rich, Sweet & Nourishing

Peanut and Pig Trotter Beauty Soup is a classic nourishing soup. The pig trotters are braised until soft and fall-off-the-bone, the peanuts are rich and creamy, and the broth is milky, sweet, and savory. Packed with collagen, it’s deeply nourishing and great for your complexion—perfect for everyday self-care.

🌴 Ingredients:

· 1 pig trotter (about 800g, front trotter preferred for more meat and less bone)
· 100g peanuts (red-skinned, soaked for 2 hours in advance)
· 50g soybeans (soaked for 2 hours in advance, optional)

🌴 Aromatics:

· 1 large piece of ginger (sliced)
· 1 section of scallion (cut into sections)
· 4-5 red dates (for sweetness and nourishment)
· A small handful of goji berries (for garnish, optional)

🌴 Seasonings:

· 2 tbsp cooking wine (about 30ml, for blanching)
· 4g salt (about a teaspoon, add at the end)
· A pinch of white pepper powder (optional)

🌴 Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Pig Trotter
Chop the pig trotter into pieces. Blanch in cold water with ginger slices and cooking wine. Bring to a boil, skim off the foam, and cook for 3 minutes. Rinse with warm water. ⚠️ Note: Starting with cold water removes the blood and odor. Rinse with warm water to keep it from smelling fishy. I’ve tried skipping this step, and the soup turned out fishy and cloudy.
  2. Prepare the Peanuts and Soybeans
Soak the peanuts and soybeans for 2 hours in advance. Rinse and drain. ⚠️ Note: Soaking makes them softer and reduces cooking time. I’ve tried cooking them without soaking, and the peanuts were still hard when the soup was done.
  3. Simmer the Soup
Place the blanched pig trotter, ginger slices, scallion sections, peanuts, soybeans, and red dates in a clay pot or soup pot. Add plenty of hot water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to low heat, cover, and simmer for 1.5 hours. ⚠️ Note: Add enough water at once. If you must add more, use hot water. I’ve tried adding cold water midway, and the trotters tightened up and became tough.
  4. Season and Serve
Add 4g salt and a pinch of white pepper. Turn off the heat, sprinkle with goji berries and scallion, and serve hot. ⚠️ Note: Add salt at the very end to keep the soup fresh. I’ve tried adding it early, and the trotters refused to tenderize and the soup was too salty.

💡 Tips:
Blanch the pig trotter in cold water and rinse with warm water to remove any odor. Soak the peanuts and soybeans to make them tender. Add enough hot water at once when simmering. Add salt at the very end for the best flavor. For a richer, more gelatinous texture, simmer for a full 2 hours.
